Landscape & Nature Assignment

Downtown Oregon City - Willamette Falls
25 November, 2012
ISO 100
55 mm
f/5.6
1/13 sec
Challenges: you can't shoot the river right up close.
I would probably use a tripod instead of a monopod, if I could go back in time. I would also wear warmer clothes, since it was freezing.

ISO 400

f/5.6
1/30 sec
It's hard to get a large tree photo when there's a medium sized town behind it.
I liked how the colour kind of filters in by the branches and twigs, so I like how I did that.

Merrywood Farm
7 December, 2012
ISO 100
36mm
f/5.0, 1/30 sec
Challenges: MY EYES WERE DILATED. So maybe not having an eye exam that day?

Downtown Oregon City
2 December, 2012
ISO 100
55 mm
f/5.6
1/20 sec
Challenges: it was raining and Joseph instructed me to only use a tripod. I had to carry a tripod as well as a bag, camera case, and an umbrella

ISO 800
32 mm
f/5.0
1/30 sec
Challenges: dilated eyes are not the best to shoot with. So don't do it.

Rose Garden
23 November, 2012
ISO 400
45 mm
f/5.6
1/13 sec
Challenges: it was raining, which reflected any light around it. Um, don't cary an umbrella around with you, buy protective gear.

ISO 640
49 mm
f/5.6
1/50 sec
Again, complications with dilated eyes. Don't do it.

ISO 400

f/5.6
1/50 sec
The end of my session with dilated eyes. Here, I could actually see. The complication was breathing in smoke and not slipping in mud, but it was well worth it.

Singer Creek
23 November, 2012
ISO 400
32 mm
f/4.5
1/200 sec
It was raining and I smashed my fingers a couple times with the tripod and holding the umbrella. It was difficult to capture the water in movement, but I like that I caught the water but then at the bottom of the falls it decided to eventually blur.

  1. I liked how you brought up the colors in nature and did one of the backgrounds black and white. I liked how you focused on exactly what you wanted us to see, and didn't do anything to distract us. Next time you could maybe work on how you shoot the water and just staying a little more in focus.

  2. Lauryn, I enjoyed the color variation you had in your photos and I thought you paid attention to detail. However I think that on your wide/medium shots you could of balanced out more. Also I think your lighting can be improved in your close-ups. Good Job overall!

  3. Love!
I am so sorry I missed yours!
Wow the close up of the water shot was incredible. The focus was spot on and it was very clear and sharp.
And I loved the soft coloring in your first landscape shot.
I think that photos 5 and 4 are a little bit over exposed for my taste but the composition and clarity was really well done. In photo 3, I think its a little bit hard for your eye to be drawn to one particular place, I kind of feel like the back ground is a tad bit distracting, but I still loved your whole collection.

  4. Personally I wouldn't of used some of the photos that you did, some missed the point of the project and they weren't nature oriented. I did LOOOOVEEEEE your first photo of the sunset, I thought it was absolutely magnificent!!! You also were very detail oriented, good job!

  5. I loved the feel of your photos. Reminds me of christmas for some reason! I loved the pinecone picture and the sap on it. Some of your pictures could be a little more clear! Great job!

  6. Pro: I think in my perspective could be a bit more clear but i liked how you captured the branches of the tree, also the fire. You manged to capture the flames in motion without making it too out of focus.
Con: Some photos are a bit overexposed and bright, straightening and cropping more would have been useful.

  7. I think you have a really unique perspective and it shines through in a positive way. I love the abstract and artistic feel of the raindrop photo as well as the creative colouring and composition of the Oregon City hill photo. I think a few of your photos were over exposed. I might suggest looking for more colour variation when you shoot.

  8. First off I love your blogg name it makes me want to think of Dr. Who! :) Your colors were great and you did a great bringing out those earthly colors and really bringing them to the picture. I love your creativity and the idea of the fire picture was great and was something that not one else thought of and I really like that you choose and did something that not a lot of people take pictures of. Coming to the most hard part of this I think that some of your photographs were a little overexposed and seemed to be a little more bright then you would want. Great job!! :)
